Vajradhara Buddhist Center was founded in 2004 by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso as a non-profit organization and member of the New Kadampa Tradition- International Kadampa Buddhist Union.
In November 2005, a residential center was established in Charlotte to provide for the growing numbers of people who wish to practice meditation and study authentic Mahayana Buddhist teachings.
By 2009 Vajradhara had outgrown the residential center and moved to its current location in order to provide a larger meditation space to cater for the growing interest in meditation classes. Vajradhara now offers more meditation classes, retreats, and chanted meditation practice for all levels of interest, experience, and lifestyle. It has become an oasis of peace in this bustling commercial city of Charlotte.
