The Amitayus prayer session involves prayers and guided meditation focusing on Amitayus, the Buddha of Long Life, Wisdom, and Merit. The greatest obstacles to the fulfillment of our wish to experience pure happiness are death and ignorance. Death destroys our opportunity to take the essence of our precious human life, and ignorance destroys our opportunity to develop a pure experience of Dharma. To overcome these obstacles, we need to increase our lifespan and our wisdom, and the principal method for doing this is the yoga of Buddha Amitayus, which is also a special method for increasing the positive power of our mind, or merit.
The practice of cleansing our mind of all delusions and negativity by relying on Vajrasattva, the Buddha of Purification. Under the influence of deluded minds, we have engaged in many negative actions, and as a result we now experience suffering and problems everyday. But we have the opportunity to purify this negativity, and thus transform our mind and our experience of the world we live in. The meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva is a powerful practice of purification, and a quick method to attain future happiness and spiritual realizations.

The Yoga of 1000 Armed Avalokiteshvara involves prayers and meditation to Avalokiteshvara who is The Compassion Buddha, the embodiment of the universal compassion of all enlightened beings. By relying upon Avalokiteshvara we naturally increase our own compassion. In this aspect Avalokiteshvara has eleven faces – the ten faces of his emanations of the ten directions and the face of his root Guru Buddha Amitabha – indicating that he benefits living beings through his countless emanations. His thousand arms indicate that he is the synthesis of the thousand Buddhas of this Fortunate Eon, and the eye in the palm of each hand indicate that he watches over and cares for infinite living beings.
